5 Questions to Ask Your Local Roofer Before Hiring

April 4, 2023

Fixing or installing your own roof is a bad idea. In fact, according to the CDC, more than 97% of all roofing and ladder accidents happen at home. It’s wise to hire a local roofer to handle this kind of work, but take care to choose a reliable service. Here are five questions you should ask before you hire a roofer.

1. Are You Experienced?

When it comes to hiring a roofer, experience shows you that you’re choosing somebody who knows what they’re doing and has a proven track record. After all, it’s hard to stay in business for decades if you’re doing shoddy work or ripping people off.

2. Do You Offer Warranties?

Your roof should last for a while after it’s installed, but that’s not always the case. If your roof starts to fail after a few months or years, a warranty means you can call your local roofer and have them fix your roof without worrying about the cost.

3. Are You Licensed and Insured?

Your home can be damaged during any type of construction work. Before you hire a roofing company, make sure they’re licensed and insured so you don’t have to worry about paying for repairs out of pocket. Even in states where licensing isn’t required, you should always hire licensed roofers.

4. How Long Will It Take?

You probably have a timeline for when you’d like to have your roof finished, so make sure you ask a roofing company how long they expect the project to take. Keep in mind that this timeline can vary a bit once the actual work starts, but it’s good to have a general estimate.

5. Do You Provide Estimates?

Speaking of estimates, you should try to get an approximate price for the cost of repairing or replacing your roof before you commit to anything. Getting estimates from a few different companies is a great way to compare prices to make sure you’re getting your roof installed for a reasonable price.

The last thing you want to do is hire a shady roofing company that doesn’t have insurance or does bad work. Ideally, you want to find a  local roofer  that’s licensed and insured, offers a warranty, and has plenty of experience. If you’re looking for a roofer to help you get your roof repaired or replaced, give Eyles Contracting, Inc a call to find out more.
